2001 Recipient - Yumiko Watanbe

Yumiko Watanbe (on left) was nominated by John Dersch (on right), both of Grand Rapids Community College.  John's nomination reads: "Yumi has done what few would have the courage to do.  She has walked away from a secure, financially rewarding career as an accountant, and has, at age 31, become a full-time student at Grand Rapids Community College.  Her goal is to acquire an advanced degree in mathematics, and to share her love of the subject, and her love of learning with others."
